DONALD RAY POPE

September 09, 1946 - July 21, 2021

U.S. Air Force Veteran  

 

Chief Master Sergeant Donald Ray Pope, a veteran of the Vietnam War, passed away on July 21, 2021, at the age of 74, in the hospital surrounded by his family. He served in the United States Air Force for 36 years and was awarded the Bronze Star.

Don was born on September 9, 1946, in Marshall Texas to Doc and Millie Pope. He was preceded by his mother, father, and sister Kathy Wheeler. He is survived by his wife Lynda Pope of Round Rock, TX., his children, Jimmy (Kathleen) Pope of Great Falls, MT., Teresa (Lee) Sullivan of Newalla OK., Michael (Tracy) Pope of Warner Robins, GA., Darlene (Chris) Ponzini, of Round Rock, TX., Amanda Pope of El Paso, TX., and Gary (Mulauni) Griego of Santa Rosa, CA. as well as 14 Grandchildren and 16 Great Grandchildren.

“Chief” as he was affectionally called was known for his big heart, straight forward attitude and his amazing storytelling with his Texas drawl and wonderful sense of humor. He loved his family with all his heart, and he was respected by everyone he knew.

His family has organized a memorial service to honor Don’s life and military service, which will be held at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX. On July 30, 2021, at 9:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL. 32256, or by visiting woundedwarriorproject.org.
