Funeral services for Mr. Larry Pope, 66, of Avinger, Texas was held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 14, 2010 at Haggard Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Butch Landers officiating under the direction of Haggard Funeral Home of Jefferson, Texas. Visitation was from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, May 13, 2010 at the funeral home.
Mr. Pope passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2010 in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was born July 14, 1943 in Mansfield, Louisiana.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing, cooking, especially outdoor grilling, and working with children at the Kids Fishing Day at Lake O'the Pines. He served in the United States Army and he had been a truck driver for a number of years. He retired from Austin Industrial as a maintenance project manager. He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius Luquette and Marie Bell Pope Luquette, and his sister, Nancy Luquette.
Surviving relatives include his wife of 32 years, Lena Pope of Avinger; children Michael Wayne Pope and Teresa Vincent; his uncle and fishin' buddy, William Pate, known as "Uncle Pate"; brothers and sister, Jerry Pope of Marshall, Texas, Glenda Parker of Five Points, Texas, and Donald Ray Barnes of Garland, Texas; five grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
