THELMA'S OBITUARY

A funeral service for Mrs. Thelma Boaze  (we knew her as Christine Vaughn) will be held on Monday, November 16, 2020 at 10:00a.m. at Downs Funeral Home. Bro. David Rice will officiate the service. Visitation will be held from 2:00p.m. to 4:00p.m. on Sunday, November 17, 2020 at Downs Funeral Home.

Thelma Christine Boaze was born July 5, 1946, a daughter of Fred Vaughn and Goldie Vaughn Jones. She was born in Shreveport, Louisiana and grew up in Marshall, Texas. She graduated from Marshall High School in 1964 and later attended the Oscar B. Jones Vocational Nursing School. Chris spent most of her life serving and caring for patients and families at Merritt Plaza Nursing home and later, at Magnolia Manor. She laid down her stethoscope in May 2014 after 41 years of nursing.

Chris attended Crossroads Baptist Church and there found a close circle of friends among the Joy Sunday school class. Chris knew Jesus Christ as her Savior and she lived a life that reflected that relationship. Her life was characterized by selfless love and generosity. She loved Elvis Presley, celebrating holidays, the color red, and wearing crazy socks. What she loved best was her family.

On June 14, 1974 she married the love of her life, Gerald Lane Boaze. They built a life together on the river in Karnack, Texas. During his long battle with diabetes and renal failure, she was his faithful caregiver until his death in 2012. Also preceding her in death were her parents; a step-son, Daniel Lane Boaze; brothers, Ray Tynes, Paul “Skipper” Vaughn, and Herschel Biggs; sisters, Freddie Robinson and Becky Weaver; and great-grandchild, Liliana Boaze.

Left to cherish the memories are her daughter, Julie Leming, and husband, Terry Don, step-sons Jacob Boaze and wife, Donna, and Todd Boaze and wife, Rebecca. She also leaves behind her greatest earthly treasures, her grandchildren: James (Jamie) Leming and wife, Brittney; Amber Clark and husband, John; Justin Boaze and wife, Gabriella; Abigail Hunt, Alex and Maggie Boaze; five great-grandchildren: Landon Davis and Alexis Leming, Elijah and Micah Clark, and Adelyn Boaze. She is survived by a host of other beloved friends and family.

The family wishes to thank those who faithfully and lovingly helped care for Chris. Special thanks to the Joy Class at Crossroads Baptist Church for years of love and friendship.
