Marlin Clayton Skinner

March 7, 1945 ~ March 4, 2022 (age 76)

Marlin Clayton Skinner, 76, passed away Friday, March 4, 2022 in Longview. Marlin was born March 7, 1945 in Marshall to Thomas Chappell Skinner and Zelma Weaver Skinner. He worked as a welder fitter for many years and then as a cattle rancher. Marlin was an avid coon hunter all his life, having purchased his first hound at the age of 15. He was a longtime member of the Bluetick Breeders Coon Hunter Association and also the American Brahman Association. Coon hunting was his life. Marlin’s greatest passion in life was his family. He loved them beyond measure. Marlin was a member of Bell Street Baptist Church since 1998 and loved the Lord with all his heart. On October 30, 1993, Marlin married Patricia “Pat” in Tyler, Texas. Marlin will be greatly missed by all those who knew him and were blessed by his love. He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife and mother of his children, Sharon Ready Skinner; and a brother, Thomas Eugene Skinner. Marlin is survived by his wife of 28 years, Patricia “Pat” Skinner, children, Michael Glenn Skinner (Amanda), Wendy Smelley (Michael Scott), Jeffrey Scott Skinner (Cindy), and Robyn Soules (Mac); grandchildren, Justin Skinner (Denise), Jessica Garrett (Collin), Sydney Skinner, Davis Smelley (Brittany), Zeke Smelley, Wade Smelley (Hailey), R.W. Skinner, Luke Soules, Grace Jones (Brady), and Tucker Soules; great grandchildren, Minnie, Marlie, Lilly, Sawyer, Hudson, Hazel, and Wesley; brothers, Stanley Skinner (Joan) and Bradley Skinner; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends who loved him dearly. Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at Immanuel Baptist Church with the funeral service immediately following at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Grange Hall Cemetery.
